Suyeol has been in the United States for a long time now. But, as we all know, learning a language is more than just the grammar and vocab. It also requires cultural knowledge. Suyeol and I always meet on Wednesdays, or, as he calls it, Hump Day. He knew that Wednesday is considered Hump Day but did not know where that saying came from. I explained to him that we this comes from the idea that a hump is the top part of an incline and after you pass it, gravity and momentum pull you the rest of the way. Wednesday is like this because after, workers are closer to the weekend.
