Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
At the beginning of this session, I asked Radhim what he learned this week in his classes. He learned the subjunctive phrases, past perfect/continuous, and gerunds/infinitives.
To start off the session, I had him read a medical essay to check for his pronunciation. There are some words that I had him pronounced again:
Disputes, Inevitable, Perrssonel, Aviation, Psychology, physiology, degree, expertise, undergraduate, biological, literature.
I then quizzed him on some of the words that he claimed to know but actually did not.
After this, I had him watch a TedTalk video on medical geography. Once the video was over I discussed with was it about and details to support the speaker's talk. I had him complete a timed essay to summarize what was discussed in the video. I then went over the basic sentence structure with him.
What I learned from this session is that students will say that they know something well when in reality they might not. I will try from now to check to see if he knew and mastered, the information by actually quizzing him on rather than trust his word.
