This past Wednesday I had the opportunity to observe another one of Olivia's classes, her group 3A composition class. For this class, Olivia had sent her students out of the zoom meeting to do a writing exercise privately that they would check and go-over the next day. Although I was not able to directly observe Olivia teaching English composition material, I was still able to learn a lot from her. She showed me some of the materials she uses, different worksheets like Cornell notes, diagrams, charts, and brainstorming activities she uses to help students organize their thoughts when starting the writing process. I found this helpful and hope to use some of her ideas for outlining compositions in the future. Another thing she showed me was her personalized workplace which had her various students listed on it and the different types of compositions they were writing. Some students were working on research papers, article reviews, essays, etc. and having a personalized plan for each one helped her tailor her instructions to that specific individual and their needs. I think if given a small enough class size, this would be a useful tool to help me make a more significant impact on a students' writing, but would not be as attainable if given a large class size.
