Wednesday, May 6th, I completed two class observations. The first class I observed was Olivia's group 3A class on grammar. Olivia discussed the phrase "used to" with the students and noted that "used to" refers to some thing or some statement that "used to" be true in the past but is no longer true. Then, she went over the past continuous tense and had each of the students come up with four separate sentences based off of four different times of the day and share what activities they did that day using the past continuous. I noted that when Olivia was giving instructions and expecting student responses, she made sure to present her own four past continuous sentences first, giving her students an example of how to complete the exercise.
Olivia also utilized pictures in her examples which I believe made it easier for the students to comprehend what she was saying because they could see what she was describing. She used real-world scenarios like going on a hike, and she tried to connect with the students and their own culture through various examples. She did not hesitate to go in-depth with her examples which is something I hope to carryover into my own teaching.
