During this tutoring session, I had Hongru read an ESL article called "Secrets of a Happy Brain" and then answer ten multiple choice questions to test his comprehension. Hongru is struggling with vocabulary and with his ability to sound out new words. Accordingly, I plan on decreasing the level of material we read and spending more time teaching him phonics in a systematic manner. Hongru still has a tendency to drop final consonants in words while reading aloud but his is definitely improving in this area. His ear for the sounds of the English language is improving, along with his ability to produce those sounds.
