Lesson(s) about tutoring and/or the tutee you learned:
Today I had my first session with my tutee. It went well and I learned a lot about him personally. His name is Abdulrahim Sahli and he is from Saudi Arabia. He recently came here 4 months ago with his family. He is a fairly young man just shy of 17 years his favourite things to do is play soccer, video games and watching movies. From what I have noticed he can speak English fairly well and he can hear me clearly when I speak but I have to speak slowly for him to understand. Which makes me realize even more that I have to communicate to my students more efficiently and clearly for them to understand so they won't be lost during the session. He can read well in English. I gave him one paragraph of a short story to read. His only issue is that he automatically contracts words even though there isn't an apostrophe. His weaknesses in terms of English are mostly listening skills and he does not have a huge expansion of vocabulary which is normal for his age. He does not know the six parts of speech which I will inform him of in the next session. I will try my best to incorporate his favourite thing into the lesson for the day so he as a young student will not feel bored during his tutoring sessions. Our meeting times will be Friday, Saturday and Sundays.
