During our second conversational partner meeting, Kim and I spoke about what we were doing in our classes. We talked a lot about academics as well as the issue of getting a job after college. Most of the talking points related to how the coronavirus has kept us from going out. We spoke about things that each of us has done in our home such as yoga, knitting and watching television to pass the time. She was interested in my headscarf and I tried my best to teach her how to do a hair wrap, but she didn't do as well to wrap her hair. She informed me that she was having difficulty reading an academic article about online education in her class. We then went into a discussion of the academic educational system in America. I taught her that there is a public school system, a private school system and a charter school system and the issues that arise from these facilities of education. Issues such as lack of funding to the public and the financial divide between schools in low and high-income neighbourhoods. We also talked about how high the tuition is for the classes at the university and how difficult professors make our school work. We went into a discussion about gender issues, such as women in the workforce being treated differently compared to men. Kim informed me that in South Korea in the workplace even with Masters or PhD women don't get that many leadership roles and they are ranked low amongst men in the workplace.  We talked about getting married and I explained in America some people are getting married too young and are not fully mature yet to have a child. Kim informed me that in South Korea women are not getting married as often and are rarely having children with men due to pursuing an education. This became an issue in South Korea for its population as it has gone down over the years. We also talked about the political systems between Korea and America.
