Today I had my first (successful) class observation, a speaking class with Dr. Pollock. The class began with Dr Pollock playing a game of Taboo with the class as to improve both high use vocabulary, through the act of trying to describe the chosen Taboo word, and in low use vocabulary through the identification of the words themselves. Throughout this game Dr Pollock was taking notes on the way in which the students spoke and, by the end of the Taboo game, he had compiled a list of phrases said by them. The class was then shown these phrases and asked about any mistakes they could see and how to fix them.

The latter part of the class consisted of the students being asked about presentations they had seen and enjoyed in the past. As the students answered this question Dr Pollock wrote down (on the equivalent of a whiteboard) the words they used. The students then went over any unfamiliar vocabulary together before the class ended.
