In my final tutoring session with Hongru, we read a short but slightly more advanced article on the subject of flooding as a natural disaster. Hongru is familiar with many words, but he does not always recognize them in written form. He still has difficulty in breaking down unfamiliar words into syllables that he can sound out, but this skill has definitely been improving. I had to repeatedly correct him on the pronunciation of some basic words such as "cause" in this session so there is still plenty of work to be done in improving his reading and speaking skills.
