Cultural and/or linguistic topics you and your partner learned: Kubra learned about the different kinds of healthcare options available in the U.S. She was confused by the FSU healthcare requirement for her to begin her law degree, and I explained how the FSU health and wellness center worked for students. We also discussed other healthcare options such as private insurance and medicaid. We compared this to how the healthcare system for students worked in Turkey. We also talked about differences in political processes in Turkey for citizens and tourists. I mentioned to Kubra that I was considering going to Turkey after graduation, and she explained how tourists and international residents in Turkey are treated with great respect, as the economy is built on tourism. It was interesting to learn about this cultural perspective as tourists and immigrants are not treated the same way in the U.S.
